THE Glamorous Diahann Carroll has Passed on at age 84

Another Great Icon has left this world; AMERICAN ACTRESS DIAHANN CARROLL a.k.a JULIA left us Friday, Oct 4th 2019 at age 84!

The 90’s or millennials may not have a clue whom we are talking about here; Let me refresh your memory, Carroll is the gorgeous Diva nurse JULIA ,the leading STAR of groundbreaking sitcom in late 60’s/early 70’s; as a Middle class Black hardworking widow with a son Corey.(played by MARC COPAGE) who is now a JAZZ Musician.

When I was growing up as a young kid in Africa, we all used to make sure we left whatever outdoor games (no distracting cell phones then) or visits, running home in time to catch the current episodes. And God forbid, anyone was sick with cough….yeah it was that good, there was no way of rewinding what was said, so ” coughers” must hush and sit all the way at back, lol, unwritten rule!… Also, we fervently prayed the electricity would not be interrupted by infamous “NEPA”!(National Electric Power Authority) whose main power really, was to mess with our heads and mind every time we watching important, news, beauty pageants, soccer world series, or fav soaps).

CARROLL got her big break as at age 19 playing in Broadway musical “House of Flowers”.

She sang in Broadway, acted in several noteworthy Films, and collaborated with hundreds of important Celebs, including, SYDNEY POITIER, SAMMY DAVIS, SINATRA and so on. Some of her notables, are: “SHOWSTOPPERS“, and films like.”PARIS BLUES” with Poitier”CARMEN JONES“, “PORGY AND BESS“, She won a TONY award for the musical “NO STRINGS”, and in 1978 ,a tribute dedicated to ETHEL WATERS “THE TIME OF MY LIFE”.

She left her beautiful fragrance and mark everywhere! Many will remember the beautiful soft- spoken Icon who, became more famous in her challenging role as the devious conniving Dominique Deveraux; the Mid 80’s star-packed DYNASTY, alongside devilishly handsome JOHN FORSYTHE and, the original Divas, LINDA EVANS, and JOAN COLLINS. Those where the good ol’ days, now, we have “Reality Shows” . (pluck my eyes quick, someone)!

Even the distinguished trailblazer had her own share of struggling to get decent parts in HOLLYWOOD, like all minorities or women in mid ages. Once when asked why she wasn’t on the screens as much? she responded with this profound statement; ” I am sometimes amazed at how few people realize what it takes for a Black woman to survive in this business”.CARROLL is right, Actresses KERRY WASHINGTON (Scandal), How to get a way with murder VIOLA DAVIS, Oprah, ANGELA BASSETT (whats love got to do with it) , TYLER PERRY and, IDRIS ELBA and many others have all addressed this sensitive yet important matter, in recent times.

She gave Us the Best of TIME OF HER LIFE and we are forever grateful! For the many years of laughs, songs that seared our souls, the fashionable style lessons, motivational speeches that boost self Image and esteem. But most of all; a good role model especially for all women, teaching us not to sell short our standards or settling for mediocrity.

Below are some beautiful words people are saying about the Legend on social media:

“Diahann Carroll walked this earth for 84 years and broke ground with every footstep. An icon. One of the all-time greats. She blazed trails through dense forests and elegantly left diamonds along the path for the rest of us to follow. Extraordinary life. Thank you, Ms. Carroll.” — Ava DuVernay on Twitter.

“I never forgot about her even though she’s been quiet. She was a great actress and a class act. She made us all proud and I hope if she sees my Mama, they can hug because my Mama worshipped her. — Terry McMillian on twitter.
